What I learned at the L&L conference - Day 1
It was all about measuring what matters
Jul 26, 2024
Lawn & Landscape's tech conference in Atlanta, GA was a great way to learn about the latest and greatest technology in the field, and about the companies that are implementing them. Here are the highlights:
Measure, Estimate, Dispatch
Mike McCarron - CEO of Imageworks, Virginia
60% Residential, 40% Commercial
Maintenance. About $8-11M in revenue (my estimate)
Summary:
Measuring and keeping track of everything is what makes you a profitable company.
Measure your curb time, travel and traffic time.
Measure how long it takes you to do a job using one type of equipment versus another type. Measure how many of your jobs are profitable versus unprofitable.
On average, 18.9% of jobs are unprofitable!
Put your business on AutoPilot
Aaron and Jason Thomas, CEO and COO of Don’s Lawn and BugBros, Oklahoma and Kansas
Pest and Weed Control. $6.3M in revenue (their numbers)
Summary:
Invest in automating everything that you do including sales, phone support, getting reviews and more.
Don’s lawn saw a 50% increase in revenue per employee after they made investments in new software systems.
Don's Lawn increased their revenue per employee by 50% through adopting software and automation.
Future Point of View - A generational opportunity with AI

Summary:
Almost everyone thinks that AI is going to be a game changer for their business, almost nobody is actually using AI to transform their business.
An interesting stat: 85% of Landscapers have either only talked about using AI, or are not doing anything at all!
The first day of the conference was a great way to see how much data that can be gathered if you implement the right technology. Read on for day 2 where the conference focused on turning that data into revenue growth.
