What I learned at the L&L conference - Day 2
Tech + talent is the winning combination
Aug 9, 2024
Lawn & Landscape's tech conference in Atlanta, GA has over 20 sessions, 50 exhibitors and hundreds of attendees. Day 2 of the conference brought more tech, but also a lot of great human stories. Check out the highlights below:
10x Your Business
Nasim Landscape, Washington / Linehan Landscaping, New Hampshire
Niwar Nasim - President, Christian Guerrero - Business Development Manager
$10M in Revenue
Commercial Maintenance, Design and Construction
Summary:
Nasim transformed an old, failing, family landscaping businesses into a highly profitable, fast growing organization.
He did this by ditching sloppy pen and paper processes and moving to software and changing his company culture.
2019 - 2024 went from $1.2M - $10M in 5 years 🤯. And he only has one person in his back office!
Using Tech to Build a Better Workforce
Alec McLennan, Founder, Good Nature Organic Lawn Care, Ohio
50 - 60 Employees
Gil Grattan, President & CEO, Virginia Green, Virginia
300 Employees
Summary:
Always be hiring because turnover is high - keep volume high and use software to help filter for the right candidates.
Provide a growth path for your employees (i.e. have formal titles and levels) and have monthly or quarterly employee appreciation events.
Alec → weed people out within 2 weeks, saves you a bunch of time in the long run. Get people out in the field ASAP.
Gil → try and get people to last 6 months, they will stay with you forever
No matter how you hire, what's more important is how you grow and retain your top talent.
Day 1 was about gathering data, day 2 was about applying it to boost revenue and to hire the best team. It was a great reminder today that for all the technology that we have developed, focusing on your people is the best way to be successful. That's why Duranta spends so much time making sure that what we do saves you time: we take care of all the computer work so that you can spend your time focusing on people.
